Use of Cutting Tools (Including chainsaws) from a Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP)

Pre-Course Requirements

To attend this course trainees must already hold a qualification in Chainsaw Maintenance, Cross Cutting and Felling Small Trees up to 380mm. If top-handled chainsaws are to be included in the training then trainees must also hold a qualification in Chainsaw from a Rope and Harness.

This course introduces trainees to the safe use of cutting tools from a MEWP including battery powered and petrol driven chainsaws.

This 2-day course will cover a range of topics including
  • Legislation
  • Risk Assessment including site zonation and communication
  • Dealing with emergency situations affecting operators working from a MEWP
  • PPE and First Aid provision
  • Selection, inspection, fitting and correct use of fall protection equipment
  • Equipment overview
  • Basic pruning principles
  • Pre use inspection and operational safety checks of the MEWP
  • Machine Setup and Operation
  • Securing and transporting tools
  • Work positioning and cutting techniques using a range of tools including battery powered and petrol driven chainsaws
  • Use of pull lines and slings to control sections

  • On completion of the training, a Lantra Awards certificate will be issued
  • Following successful completion of the training, Treepartner Training Ltd can organise the related City & Guilds NPTC Level 3 Certificate of Competence in Use of Chainsaw from a Mobile Elevating Work Platform – MEWP (Qualification No: 0039-38)
