Use of Cutting Tools (Including chainsaws) from a Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP)
Pre-Course Requirements
To attend this course trainees must already hold a qualification in Chainsaw Maintenance, Cross Cutting and Felling Small Trees up to 380mm. If top-handled chainsaws are to be included in the training then trainees must also hold a qualification in Chainsaw from a Rope and Harness.
This course introduces trainees to the safe use of cutting tools from a MEWP including battery powered and petrol driven chainsaws.

This 2-day course will cover a range of topics including
- Legislation
- Risk Assessment including site zonation and communication
- Dealing with emergency situations affecting operators working from a MEWP
- PPE and First Aid provision
- Selection, inspection, fitting and correct use of fall protection equipment
- Equipment overview
- Basic pruning principles
- Pre use inspection and operational safety checks of the MEWP
- Machine Setup and Operation
- Securing and transporting tools
- Work positioning and cutting techniques using a range of tools including battery powered and petrol driven chainsaws
- Use of pull lines and slings to control sections

- On completion of the training, a Lantra Awards certificate will be issued
- Following successful completion of the training, Treepartner Training Ltd can organise the related City & Guilds NPTC Level 3 Certificate of Competence in Use of Chainsaw from a Mobile Elevating Work Platform – MEWP (Qualification No: 0039-38)
