Introduction to Felling and Processing Small Trees with a Diameter at Felling Height of up to 380mm

Pre-Course Requirements:

To attend this course trainees must already hold a qualification in Chainsaw Maintenance & Cross Cutting

This course is designed to follow on from F01 Chainsaw Maintenance , Cross-Cutting and Basic Chainsaw Operation but can also run as a 5-day combined course (F01/F02). It introduces a range of felling and branch removal techniques and covers methods for dealing safely with hung up and leaning trees.

This 3-day course will cover the following topics:
  • Legislation
  • Risk Assessment
  • PPE and First Aid Provision
  • Field maintenance skills
  • Ergonomic working methods including the use of lifting/turning aids when handling and stacking timber
  • Use of battery powered and petrol driven chainsaws
  • Recap of cross cutting topics covered in course F01
  • Organised felling and thinning techniques
  • Techniques for felling trees up to 200mm diameter at base
  • Specialist felling techniques including methods for dealing with leaning trees
  • Measuring and converting timber to a specification
  • Branch removal methods
  • Take down of hung-up trees including the set up and operation of a hand winch.

Notes

  • F02 can be combined with F01 to create a 5-day course at a reduced cost
  • On completion of the training, a Treepartner Training Record of Training and Achievement (certificate) will be issued
  • Following successful completion of the training, Treepartner Training Ltd can organise the related City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Felling Small Trees up to 380mm (Qualification No: 0039-21).
