Chainsaw Maintenance, Cross Cutting and Basic Chainsaw Operation
This course aims to equip trainees with the necessary skills to maintain chainsaws and carry out a range of cross cutting techniques safely and efficiently. The course includes additional techniques for cross cutting timber with a diameter greater than the effective cutting length of the guide bar.

This 2-day course covers the following topics:
- Legislation
- Risk Assessment
- PPE and First Aid Provision
- Workshop and field maintenance skills for battery powered and petrol driven chainsaws
- Site preparation, fuelling and pre-use checks
- Ergonomic work techniques including the use of lifting/turning aids when handling and stacking timber
- Measuring timber
- Tension and compression forces in timber sections and selection of correct severing sequence
- Cross cutting techniques such as vertical bore cuts, step and reductions cuts
- Procedure for dealing with a trapped chainsaw.
Notes
- F01 can be combined with F02 to create a 5-day course at a reduced cost
- On completion of the training, a Treepartner Training Record of Training and Achievement (certificate) will be issued
- Following successful completion of the training, Treepartner Training Ltd can organise the related City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross-cutting (Qualification No: 0039-20)
