Use of Chainsaw from a Rope and Harness

Pre-Course Requirements:

To attend this course, trainees must already hold qualifications in Tree Climbing & Aerial Rescue, Chainsaw Maintenance & Cross Cutting and Felling & Processing Small Trees up to 380mm.

This 3-day course will cover the following topics:
  • Legislation
  • Risk Assessment including site zonation and communication
  • PPE and First Aid Provision
  • Duties of a competent grounds person and aerial operative
  • Tree care overview (understanding the importance of appropriate work position techniques and their significance in relation to good tree care practice)
  • An introduction to the principles of good pruning techniques
  • Visual tree assessment
  • Climbing system selection, inspection, and system design
  • Ascent and work positioning techniques (including the use of spikes)
  • Techniques for lifting, lowering and securing chainsaws to the harness
  • Procedure for dealing with a ‘trapped’ chainsaw
  • Methods for removing sections safely including the use of a pull line for free fall sections and a sling for ‘handheld’ sections
  • Cutting techniques using battery powered and petrol driven chainsaws & handsaws.

Notes

  • On completion of the training, a Treepartner Training Record of Training and Achievement (certificate) will be issued
  • Following successful completion of the training, Treepartner Training Ltd can organise the related City & Guilds NPTC Level 3 Certificate of Competence in Using a Chainsaw from a Rope and Harness (Qualification No: 0039-23)
