Pruning Techniques for Aerial Tree Work and Use of Chainsaw from a Rope and Harness
Pre-Course Requirements:
To attend this course trainees must already hold a qualification in Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue, Maintenance Cross-Cutting, Basic Chainsaw Operations and Felling and Processing Small Trees up to 380mm.
This combined course is designed to follow on from the F01/F02 and A01 courses. It will provide trainees with the necessary skills to operate a chainsaw from a rope and harness and both understand and carry out pruning operations including crown thinning and reductions.

This 5-day course will cover the following topics:
- Legislation
- Risk Assessment including site zonation and communication
- PPE and First Aid Provision
- Tree care overview (understanding the importance of appropriate work position techniques and their significance in relation to good tree care practice)
- An introduction to the principles of good pruning techniques
- An introduction to tree identification
- Visual tree assessment
- Climbing system selection, inspection, and system design
- Ascent and work positioning techniques (including the use of spikes)
- Crown thinning and reduction operations using a range of tools including secateurs, hand saws, loppers and extendable pruning tools
- Cutting techniques using battery powered and petrol driven chainsaws
Notes
- On completion of the training, a Treepartner Training Record of Training and Achievement (certificate) will be issued
- Following successful completion of the training, Treepartner Training Ltd can organise the related City & Guilds NPTC Level 3 Certificate of Competence in Aerial Tree Pruning (Qualification No: 0039-31) and Certificate of Competence in Using a Chainsaw from a Rope and Harness (Qualification No: 0039-23)
